10G-EPON

10G-EPON means 10 Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network. Two configurations are supported by the 10G-EPON standard:

  1. Symmetric: with 10 Gbit/s both downstream and upstream.
  2. Asymmetric: with 10 Gbit/s downstream (towards subscriber) and 1 Gbit/s upstream (towards network).

A type of passive optical network ratified under IEEE 802.3av standard in 2009, EPON uses passive fiber-optic splitters for point-to-multipoint access.
