EXFO’s new OTDR covers both CWDM and DWDM wavelengths

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, October 19, 2017 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF), the network test, monitoring and analytics experts, announced the release of the FTB-740C-xWDM OTDR Series, a tunable optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) covering all CWDM and DWDM wavelengths and residing on EXFO’s compact FTB-1 and FTB-1 Pro platforms. C-band DWDM channels (17-62) and all 18 CWDM wavelengths can now be tested using the same compact test solution—no module swapping required—saving valuable time and CAPEX, and powering the deployment of passive xWDM fiber links.

Multi-service operators (MSOs) and contractors need to quickly and accurately validate commercial services in fiber-to-the-premise (FTTp), fiber deep and Remote PHY networks. With those environments migrating from coax to hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks and fluctuating from coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) to dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), technicians need to be able to test both types of wavelengths interchangeably and efficiently.

Raising the efficiency bar even higher, the FTB-740C-xWDM OTDR Series can be paired with EXFO’s intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM) to facilitate the transition from testing RF cables to testing optical fibers. Together they comprise the only solution for automated characterization of passive CWDM/DWDM networks delivering error-free testing by eliminating the need to manually configure parameters or analyze complex OTDR traces. Automation rises to a new level enabling the RF technician to quickly become an optical test expert.

“The ability to accurately characterize all CWDM and DWDM wavelengths using a single solution is a must for our customers,” says Stéphane Chabot, EXFO’s Vice President, Test and Measurement. “With the push on for fiber deep, the FTB-740C-xWDM OTDR Series enables our customers to capture measurements more efficiently without compromising on accuracy. They can feel confident about delivering more bandwidth to their subscribers while simultaneously increasing quality of service.”
