Fiber has become a critical element in delivering high-quality broadband and 5G networks. Driven by new bandwidth-intensive applications and more demanding customer expectations, fiber is being pushed beyond the core and aggregation networks – all the way to the end customer or cell tower. And the mission-critical nature of many of these services is driving the need for greater visibility to support stringent SLA requirements. Today, it is estimated that less than 5% of fiber is actively monitored – and as data rates and wavelength counts increase, the impact of fiber quality issues is magnified. This is especially true not only for new fiber builds where it is estimated that at least 30% of the fibers will have service-impacting issues, but equally for older fiber infrastructure that was never expected to support the increased data rates. Today’s networks, which rely heavily on automation to reduce opex, need complete visibility into customer quality of experience (QoE) and network quality of service (QoS). And while much of this can be provided through active assurance monitoring at layers 2 through 7, the full benefits of this automation requires visibility down to the optical layer. This complete visibility can significantly reduce opex by minimizing the need for truck-rolls by pinpointing the exact location of service-impacting issues and correlating fiber monitoring KPIs with active assurance KPIs to quickly identify root cause events, shorten MTTR and, when combined with machine learning, predict service-impacting events before they happen. Join this webinar to learn how Hyperoptic and Mox Networks are using fiber monitoring to: Speed up deployment of new fiber networks by fully testing and characterizing all fibers and splitters while the construction teams are still on site Speed up the time-to-first revenue and improve overall customer experience through improved network quality Reduce operations costs and speed up time-to-revenue by automating the turnup and testing of dark and lit fiber services
ResourcesToday, businesses operate globally on a demanding 24x7 schedule. They are moving critical, and even real-time applications into “cloud architectures” to capture the competitive edge. These modern businesses are ‘always on’, responsive to changing conditions, and available wherever their customer base demands. Driven by these evolving business requirements, communications networks can no longer afford to be offline, even for short periods of time. Maintenance windows are becoming a thing of the past. Newer applications (particularly real-time applications) are demanding increased reliability across the network. The question is, “how do evolve your network to support these ever increasing application performance requirements?” The answer to this question requires a re-think about how networks are designed and operated. It requires a different perspective on how reliability it ensured. It requires leveraging more automation. And it requires integrated tools to observe the resources across all layers of the network environment – physical, transport, services layers. Join this webinar to learn how LightRiver and their partner EXFO team up to deliver: Network designs utilizing the latest technologies to provide resilient, adaptable, network performance Factory Built Networks that have been designed, built, and fully tested before being deployed – eliminating missing inventory and ‘dead-on-arrival’ issues, generating revenue much faster Full visibility of the network and physical layers allowing environmental issues to be detected and made actionable, in real-time End-to-end visualization of the service layer performance, with seamless view of multi-vendor networks Rapid root-cause determination through the correlation and analysis of multiple, seemingly disparate issues to pinpoint the exact nature and location of faults
ResourcesWorking with assigned thresholds help technicians decide if a fiber link is good or bad. Thresholds help grade the work performed and meeting accepted thresholds are a deciding factor that determines whether contractors get paid for their work or not. So for example what are the right thresholds for a splice? And can thresholds be too strict? Recent trends are moving toward stricter thresholds resulting in additional and sometimes unnecessary work and tests. This webinar will explore the various fiber testing thresholds recommended by standards bodies and how they apply. We will also provide recommendations on setting sensible thresholds—those that lead to a high-quality network, without causing extra work for technicians. Viewers will also receive guidance concerning when to challenge thresholds, which thresholds are recognized as unreasonable and how to make sure that the right thresholds are always set at the right time. This webinar will also show a different approach to rating the quality of network installations—an approach that’s easy and understandable. Key takeaways: Recommended fiber thresholds and how they apply to real life testing scenarios Working with fiber testing thresholds in a hassle-free way. An alternative qualitative approach to assess fiber links and how efficiently and robustly a link is built Join Christian Till as he separates facts from feeling when it comes to using the right thresholds while performing fiber testing.

ResourcesThis webinar is the second installment of a series around transmission technologies and testing for next-gen data centers. The pandemic has changed the way we live, work and communicate, accelerating the adoption of remote services. This is generating massive quantities of data traveling across the planet, which in turn is pushing the limits of data centers in maintaining reliable, high-performance networks. One of the biggest challenges for networks is to scale, manage and support thousands and thousands of fibers, connectors, transceivers, servers and switches that are interconnected to bring a wide range of services to customers, from social media to online shopping. Unfortunately, these elements of the network can fail, causing various issues from silent impact to complete service loss during a costly outage. Therefore, fault detection inside and outside the data center is critical for administrators and technicians. Detecting and identifying the root cause of a failure is a vital task in today’s network-dependent world. This webinar, the second instalment of a series, will provide you with the tools, and solutions to simplify data center fault identification, location, and detection. The webinar includes live demonstrations of solutions presented Key takeaways: Fiber troubleshooting techniques Multilayer troubleshooting from physical to protocol layer Higher layer troubleshooting for TCP traffic Remote testing and validation tools Remote hands robotic automation inside the data center
