Scale-across

What is scale-across?

In AI infrastructure, scale-across refers to extending AI workloads, data and connectivity beyond a single cluster, campus or data center by interconnecting multiple sites through high-capacity transport networks.

Scale-across architecture enables organizations to distribute compute resources, share data and support AI operations across geographically separated locations.

Why is scale-across important?

As AI deployments grow, a single data center may not provide sufficient capacity, resiliency or geographic reach. Scale-across connectivity enables organizations to connect AI resources across multiple facilities while supporting business continuity, workload distribution and data accessibility.

However, extending AI infrastructure beyond a single location introduces additional challenges related to network performance, latency, synchronization and operational visibility.

Key considerations

  • High-capacity data center interconnect (DCI) links
  • End-to-end network performance across sites
  • Latency and synchronization between locations
  • Network resiliency and redundancy
  • Visibility across distributed AI infrastructure
  • Validation of transport and optical network performance
