Kilobits per Second (kbit/s or kb/s)

Measurement unit to specify the speed of an Internet connection; i.e., the number of bits that can be transmitted over a wire in a single second. Most analog modem connections operate at speeds between 9.6 kbit/s (9600 bits per second) and 33.6 kbit/s (33,600 bits per second). ADSL can operate up to 8 Mbit/s (8,000,000 bits per second).
