25G PON

What is 25G PON?

25G PON (25 Gigabit Passive Optical Network) is a next-generation fiber access technology capable of delivering up to 25 Gbit/s over passive optical networks (PONs). It is designed to support higher-bandwidth residential, enterprise and mobile transport services while leveraging existing fiber access infrastructure.

A key benefit of 25G PON is its ability to coexist with other PON technologies, enabling service providers to increase network capacity while protecting existing network investments.

Why is 25G PON important?

As bandwidth requirements continue to grow, service providers need scalable solutions that can support more demanding applications and services. 25G PON provides a path to higher-capacity access networks without requiring a complete infrastructure overhaul.

The coexistence of multiple PON technologies within the same network can introduce additional testing and troubleshooting challenges during deployment, activation and maintenance.

Key considerations

  • Identifying active PON services and technologies
  • Measuring upstream and downstream optical power levels
  • Testing multiple wavelengths within the access network
  • Validating service activation and network performance
  • Troubleshooting issues in multi-generation PON environments
