The path to smarter 100G transport network testing and validation

  • 29 mai 2020

François Marcotte

Senior Applications Engineer, EXFO

François Marcotte is a Senior Applications Engineer currently working at EXFO in Montreal, Canada. With more than 28 years in the telecommunication industry, he began his career at Bell Canada as an installer and repair man. He was involved in QAM HFC system design and integration in early 90’s.

Over the years, François has developed strong knowledge on Ethernet, MPEG, OTN and optical transport. He is continuously working with customers as a technical advisor for Ethernet, optical transport testing, performances test procedure and training. François is involved with product definition at EXFO for Ethernet and optical transport product. He is also a regular speaker in various seminars in North America.

François graduated from the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, as an Electrical Engineer.

Steve Lépine

Product Specialist, Transport and Datacom

Steve Lépine is an expert in Ethernet and Fibre Channel technologies. He has over 18 years of experience with EXFO in T&D. Steve was involved for 15 years as FPGA designer in R&D. He is currently a Product Specialist. Steve is a key contributor in the development of several test applications for high-profile product lines such as the NetBlazer, Power Blazer and BV series. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Microelectronics from Université du Quebec à Montréal (UQAM).

To keep pace with bandwidth demands, network operators are supporting higher transmission rates and upgrading both the network capacity and the number of transport links. 10Gbp/s metro network links are now being upgraded to 100Gbp/s links to support IoT, big data, Cloud and 5G services. It is becoming imperative to understand the impact of 100G Ethernet transport in the metropolitan area network, the challenges of new optical interfaces and most importantly how to implement the right testing processes to deliver flawless quality of service (QoS).

In this webinar, we will focus on testing examples using an advanced solution that integrates EXFO's unique flexible Open Transceiver System.

Key takeaways:

  • Understanding the evolution of the optical interface
  • 100G technology review: What's out there in terms of transceivers?
  • 100G Ethernet testing simplicity using the iSAM application
  • An overview of OTU4 testing use cases
  • Transceiver validation and testing considerations using the iOptics application
