In case you missed it: OptiNet China 2013
The OptiNet China 2013 Conference was held on June 5 and 6 of this year, and once again, EXFO was proud to be a part of it.
The topics covered during the first day of the event focused on mobile backhaul, but mainly on 100G. It is
now widely accepted that large-scale deployment of 100G transmission systems in the field will be scaled up over the next several years both in China and worldwide. The 100G system is also expected to enjoy a long service life similar to that of the 10G system.
In examining the development and the deployment history of 10G systems, it is clear that one critical aspect guaranteeing their reliable operation was the extensive development of well-defined metrology and standards for performance evaluation and characterization of devices, subsystems and complete transmission systems. However, there are serious challenges in the development of proper metrology and standards for adequate analysis and quantification of the performance of 100G transmission systems. In addition, such metrology and standards are essential to successful large-scale deployment.
To respond to the above challenges, Dr. Gang He, Senior Research Scientist at EXFO, gave a conference entitled 100G Transmission System Performance Evaluation: OSNR and EVM. During this session, Dr. He discussed the appropriate criteria, testing tools and measurement methods for evaluating performance of devices, transmission links and complete transmission systems. His presentation also included systematic and correlated characterization strategy for commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting.
For the most part, the topics covered during the second day of the conference revolved around FTTx technology. These sessions were very interesting, but not quite as popular as the 100G-related conferences.
We are happy to report that the EXFO booth attracted a great crowd throughout the course of the event, and we are certainly looking forward to attending the event again next year.
