The optical designer must understand the physical phenomena underlying measurement and is responsible for the optical elements of products ranging from feasibility analysis, conception and design through qualification and handover to production.

More specifically, the optical designer must:

  • Explain and describe the physical phenomena influencing the quality of the measurement targeted by the product;
  • Perform analyzes, simulations and assemblies prior to the design;
  • Interpret the measurement requirements and their impact on the various design elements;
  • Collaborate with specialists in mechanics, electronics, metrology and software (embedded, signal processing and high-level) to ensure successful integration of the measurement chain targeted by the product;
  • Define and write a structured and comprehensive qualification plan;
  • Perform the tests and measurements necessary for product qualification;
  • Perform rigorous uncertainty metrological analysis and calculations justifying the specifications;
  • Write product testing, experience and qualification reports, as well as design notebooks that document the product;
