François Robitaille has been with EXFO since 2000. His main responsibilities include NEM market assessment, identifying potential growth areas and key product ideas as well as ensuring that products reach the market and are commercially successful. François started his career as a Project Manager for Gentec Electro-Optics and from there moved on to Bell Mobility Radio in Engineering and Sales, then to Davicom Technologies as Director of R&D. François holds a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Université Laval, in Quebec City. He brings to EXFO extensive expertise in both R&D and sales.

With the rapidly increasing number of coherent network deployments, there is a vast roll-out of Raman amplifiers to enhance Optical Signal-to-Noise Ratio (OSNR) for the purpose of increasing transmission distance without opto-electronic regeneration and preparing the network for future capacity upgrades using 8QAM and 16QAM. 

Although it uses fiber that has already been installed, Raman deployment is not as simple as it may seem. Knowledge about the fiber infrastructure, fiber type and quality, and connector loss is required, since fiber parameters can impact key system performance parameters, such as signal gain, signal quality, and DWDM system capacity, and reach.
