Fiber-optic cabling infrastructure provides the throughput capacity and reach required by today's most-demanding networks in enterprise and data center environments. Yet simply choosing fiber as your transmission medium does not by itself guarantee exceptional performance. Like any type of infrastructure, a fiber-optic cabling system must be properly specified, installed, verified and maintained to satisfy user needs. This webcast seminar, produced by Cabling Installation & Maintenance, discusses multiple aspects of fiber-optic cabling system deployment that must be sufficiently addressed to assure the system performs as intended.

Presentation 1: Fiber-Optic Options for Data Center Networks
Multimode fiber continues to be a popular and economical choice to meet the short reach links typical of most data centers. Whether it's 10G, 400G, or speeds in between, multimode fiber will continue to meet the throughput demands data centers require. Several types of multimode fiber-optic cable are available for data center use, each with its own distance and capacity capabilities. This presentation describes multimode fiber types that are appropriate for data center networks—including OM3, OM4 and wideband multimode—explaining each type's performance capabilities and the network characteristics that determine which type is most appropriate for a given facility.

Presentation 2: Testing and Troubleshooting of Multimode Fiber Cabling
Once a fiber-optic cabling system is installed, it must be tested to ensure it both meets the performance requirements of industry standards, and has the capability to support the applications that will run over it. Testing the installed system is necessary to provide this assurance, so is the capacity to troubleshoot an issue that may happen during the network utilization. This presentation describes how and why Tier 1 & 2 testing are the right approaches to provide this peace of mind for users. The presentation discusses advancements that have been made to Tier 1 & 2 test equipment to make the process of acceptance testing comprehensive, accurate, and more convenient.

Presentation 3: Multifiber Connectivity Options and ApproachesHigh-density data center connections often make use of multifiber connectivity technology. Recently the concept of "MPO-8" fiber connectivity has been widely discussed. This presentation explains the optical-network connectivity architectures that gave rise to the MPO-8 approach. It also describes in detail the pros and cons of 8 vs. 12 vs. 24 fiber options and how each technology manages transitions from duplex to parallel optics.
