Measuring EDFA gain and noise figure using EXFO’s OSA20

Application note

Gain and noise figures are key parameters used to assess the quality of optical fiber amplifiers such as EDFA and Raman amplifiers. These parameters are typically measured using an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) together with one or multiple laser sources.

This application note reviews the measurement configurations for single wavelength and multi-channel testing and compares typical gain and noise figure resutls obtained on a regular and a gain flattened EDFA.
