DWDM Explained in 15 Minutes

Dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) is a widely used technology that allows to send a large number of optical signals, each having its own wavelength, onto a single optical fiber.

Join Francis Audet, our resident expert, as he explains in clear and simple terms the principle of this technology, and identifies the three key parameters that must measured and monitored to ensure proper DWDM transmission: power, central wavelength and, most importantly, optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR).

Also, learn why the optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) is the recommended instrument to perform DWDM measurements, as well as what makes a good (or a bad) OSA.
