Jimmy Gagnon has been working for EXFO in optics and telecommunications for over 12 years holding different positions, making his way up to Product Line Manager in the marketing group. Jimmy has been supporting and developing the OTDR business for four years now, specializing in FTTH and CATV markets. Besides this direct experience in telecommunications, Jimmy worked for three years as a major account manager for a Quebec company in electronics, acquiring important skills in project management and customer relations. Jimmy holds a technical degree in Electronics from Limoilou College, Quebec City.

Julie Kunstler

Principal Analyst at Ovum

Julie Kunstler is a Principal Analyst at Ovum specializing in wireline/fixed broadband access, particularly next-gen broadband technologies, deployments and monetization strategies.

With more than 30 years' industry experience, Julie examines the success of new technologies and the challenges in adoption and deployment. In particular she focuses on components, equipment and SDN/NFV for fiber (FTTx and PON), copper (xDSL and G.fast) and coax (DOCSIS, CCAP).

Prior to joining Ovum, Julie served as VP Business Development for Teknovus, focusing on FTTx deployments in Asia Pacific.

Geoffroy brings a fresh perspective to the telecommunication industry. A graduate of mechanical engineering, he joined the EXFO team in early 2019. He has embarked on a mission to challenge the status quo, provoke insightful reflections and embrace a culture of innovation. Coming from a product line management background, his extensive connection with the end user brings customers to the forefront of the technological conversation.

When it comes to CATV technology, the road to 10G brings unprecedented challenges. To prepare for near-future applications, multiple system operators (MSO) have to push their network to the next frontier with maintenance teams that are trained only for RF/coax support. That’s not all; network equipment vendors have 25 GB/s in sight, meaning more operational complexity and capital expenditures. To add to these challenges, CableLabs launched DOCSIS 4.0 including FDX, ESD and ultra-low latency. More technologies in the mix.

MSOs need to make these upgrades while simultaneously maintaining an already highly complex network for bandwidth-thirsty subscribers.

MSOs must break the silos within their own organization to manage various types or architectures, forcing them to find new ways to be more efficient. For example, the maintenance teams must now deal with several architectures, new fiber technologies and P2MP fiber links.
