Network operators must optimize their network infrastructure if they hope to meet the ever-growing need for bandwidth. Depending on an operator’s requirements and the number of subscribers sharing the network costs, coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) will increase the bandwidth of an optical fiber by multiplexing several wavelengths (or colors) onto it.
