EXFO Receives the 2014 Portable Fiber-Optic Test Equipment Market Share Leadership Award from Frost & Sullivan

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, February 21, 2014—EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF) announced today that it has been named recipient of the 2014 Frost & Sullivan Global Market Share Leadership Award in the portable fiber-optic test equipment (FOTE) market.

According to Frost & Sullivan, a leading global growth consulting firm, EXFO has solidified its first place in 2013 in the overall portable FOTE market with a market share of 38.2%, an 8% gap with its closest competitor. EXFO’s close collaboration with customers and the superior quality of its products have helped the company maintain its brand globally in the portable FOTE market. The key performance driver for EXFO has been its focus on portable OTDRs, fiber inspection solutions and optical spectrum analyzers, for which the company has gained incredible momentum in new regions, with more than 100% growth in Brazil and other Latin American countries in 2011 over 2010.

The intelligent Optical Link Mapper (iOLM), one of the many sources of EXFO’s continuous success in the FOTE market, has seen its functionalities expanded to cover all common fiber applications such as FTTx last-mile, FTTH/PON, Metro, CDWM and, more recently, FTTA and data centers with the addition of a multimode version. iOLM uses the patent-pending Link-Aware™ technology, a unique OTDR-based application that removes all complexity from traditional OTDR testing by launching multipulse acquisitions, automating parameter settings, analyzing the results and presenting clear pass/fail verdicts, illustrated with colored icons. Selling thousands of iOLMs over the past three years has secured EXFO’s position in the global fiber-optic test equipment market.

Other key portable FOTE products include power meters, light sources, inspection probes, OTDRs, dispersion analyzers and optical spectrum analyzers (OSA). As proof of the cutting-edge technology, EXFO introduced portable test solutions, the new MaxTester, the first tablet-inspired handheld OTDR, and the FIP-400B Fiber Inspection Probe series. Both of these products were designed to be compact and intuitive, with an unmatched end-user experience, and also be intelligent and connected, to improve and automate the testing workflow, thus boosting test efficiency.

Another key factor of success for EXFO is the unique environment that surrounds its portable test product portfolio. Thanks to the connectivity features of the FTB Ecosystem of portable test platforms, as well as EXFO Connect cloud-based hardware and test data management services, FTB test devices are continuously synchronized and interconnected throughout the test cycle, enabling operators to do more with their test results while simplifying the actual field work for all end users, from technicians to deployment managers.

“Developing close relationships with our customers, tailoring solutions for their challenges, and delivering innovation that offers them true value are all factors that have helped EXFO maintain the no. 1 position in the portable FOTE market over the years,” said Étienne Gagnon, Vice-President of EXFO’s Test and Measurement Division. “We will continue to build our brand and increase our global presence to make sure we offer our customers the best FOTE portfolio in the industry.”

“EXFO’s success in the portable FOTE market segment is attributed to the close relationships it maintains with its customers in order to identify their specific requirements and therefore come up with new products and solutions that are in line with market requirements,” said Sujan Sami, Industry Manager at Frost & Sullivan. “Over the years, EXFO has developed innovative products that simplify test processes while increasing testing speed and accuracy, which explains the company’s significant growth in the portable FOTE market segment globally.”
