Kontron partners with EXFO for SYMLAB 2.0

Service providers and enterprises to leverage Kontron remote software test environment with assistance from EXFO's virtual probe solution

Montreal, CANADA, February 21st, 2018 – Kontron, a global provider of open source cloud and integrated infrastructure platforms, today announced it has revamped its remote SYMLAB test and benchmarking environment, now hosted in a state-of-the-art colo facility.

The SYMLAB 2.0 mandate is to enable software vendors from the cloud, video and telecom space to remotely and safely run their solutions on Kontron SYMKLOUD hardware or across its turnkey OpenStack or Kubernetes clusters. Kontron has chosen to work with EXFO as the exclusive partner to supply active service assurance testing for third-party virtualized network functions (VNFs) for NFV and SDN deployments.

A key component is the EXFO Virtual Verifier (vVerifier) probe solution, a VNF that supports a comprehensive suite of more than 150 active tests. The vVerifier can be automatically deployed or instantiated throughout the network as part of the service chain to perform activation and validation as well as real-time end-to-end performance and SLA monitoring. This provides the NOC /SOC with a real-time view across all layers.

EXFO active tests address a wide array of network transport protocols and IP services, including carrier Ethernet, IP, VoIP, video, VPN, and wireless and web-based applications. They also include a variety of performance tests, delivering business-critical insights on network and service performance.

Kontron SYMLAB is set up with SYMKLOUD hardware including the MS2900 Series of converged hardware featuring 1G, 10G or 100G integrated switching fabric across nine module IA nodes. Any service provider or private cloud builder can gain access to the SYMKLOUD turnkey OpenStack and Kubernetes Container environments to test for various central office and edge related service use cases.

“SYMLAB is extremely practical to help accelerate the validation process of infrastructure apps across different types of our hardware, before making any decisions to buy and ship to a customer lab,” said Benoit Robert, VP Strategy and Marketing, Kontron. “We are very pleased to collaborate with EXFO to insert a critical piece of the testing process.”

“Kontron is a longstanding partner and we are happy to ..be selected as their exclusive active test provider for active service assurance testing.... ,” said Claudio Mazzuca, VP Systems & Analytics, EXFO. “We were able to seamlessly integrate our vVerifier probe solution in the Kontron SYMLAB and easily achieve line rate performance without additional dedicated hardware. We believe the joint solution will be a key component for service providers to further automate their testing and assurance processes.”

EXFO will showcase its vVerifier VNF at the Kontron booth during Mobile World Congress. The company will be available to further discuss their participation with SYMLAB.
