EXFO signs 5G research agreement with Universitat Politècnica de València

Published on April 16, 2019

Developing cutting-edge solutions to maximize customer experience

Valencia, SPAIN, April 16, 2019 — EXFO Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO) (TSX: EXF), the communications industry’s test, monitoring and analytics experts, announced that it has recently signed a research and innovation agreement with Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). This partnership will focus on developing advanced techniques and solutions for 5G network deployment, troubleshooting and optimization.

Professor Jose F. Monserrat will be leading the UPV team. Prof. Monserrat has a long track record in standardization bodies and has led several European projects, such as WINNER, METIS, METIS-II, 5G-XCAST and 5G-CARMEN. He is currently participating in large-scale trials of 5G deployments mainly focusing on C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything) communications and network architecture design, with the aim of meeting challenging 5G use case requirements.

"I am really excited to start this collaboration with a recognized global leader in service assurance for optical and mobile networks. The experience acquired by UPV in the field of radio optimization, as well as our knowledge about 5G, will be very useful for the transition of the company to that important field of innovation. I am sure this joint initiative will foster new synergies between academia and EXFO," said Prof. Monserrat.

“Powered by UPV’s deep know-how, we are pioneering 5G innovation to help operators confidently deploy new services and get it right the first time. To deliver on the promise of 5G, operators must have real-time, actionable insights into customer quality of experience and what’s going on in the network, from core to subscriber,” said Dr. Abdelkrim Benamar, EXFO’s Vice President of Service Assurance, Systems and Services. “Collaborating with leading research teams across the globe is a great way to keep our innovation engine up and roaring! These partnerships are key to keeping EXFO at the leading edge of 5G done right.”
