40Gbps Challenges


Description


A summary of the main challenges of 40 gigabits transmission networks, such as polarization mode dispersion, chromatic dispersion and optical signal-to-noise ratio measurements, particularly in a mesh network. Solutions to overcome those challenges are also presented.

Gregory W. Schinn is currently Director of Research and Director of Intellectual Property at EXFO. He obtained his doctorate in phyics from JILA / University of Colorado in 1988, and has worked in the telecommunications industry since 1990. Upon his arrival at EXFO in 1996, he led the newly formed Research Group, mandated to develop new test and measurement concepts for fiber-optic test and measurement.

More recently, he has integrated the team of experienced researchers from the newly-acquired Swedish start-up PicoSolve into the Research Division. Greg has published numerous scientific publications, conference presentations, and patents, and is very active in photonics industry associations.
