Passive-component testing can be described as a verification of the transmission and reflection characteristics of a device under test (DUT) at as many wavelengths as required by the device type or application.
Spectrally flat or
broadband components may be tested at only a few key wavelengths, while
components with large spectral loss variations, such as WDM components,
need to be thoroughly examined over the complete wavelength range of
interest. Testing in the C and L bands will be required for
adequate characterization of DWDM devices, and all-band testing is
preferable for CWDM components.
